INTENT

At Heage Primary School, we aim to provide an inclusive science curriculum where all children will think of themselves as scientists. We will provide a science curriculum that gives children the opportunity to develop scientific skills, knowledge and key vocabulary. Children will ask scientific questions to show interest and curiosity about the world around them related to everyday life.

IMPLEMENTATION

Science topics follow the school curriculum overview, and lessons are planned using PLAN primary science documents. Our science curriculum is tailored to the needs of our pupils and the local area.

Teachers use cross-curricular links, where possible, to enhance knowledge of science. We will use a range of scientific resources to enthuse pupils in science lessons.

Scientific vocabulary is embedded through the use of vocabulary posters, which are displayed in classrooms, for each topic.

Each lesson begins with an opportunity for children to revisit prior learning and link prior knowledge to today’s learning. Small investigation tasks planned for within each lesson encourage children to think like scientists.
