The Governing Body

The Role of a School Governor

The three core functions of a school governing body are:

  1. To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  2. To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  3. To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.

Governors are volunteers, who attend meetings and work alongside the headteacher to further the schools' development.  This includes developing the schools' strategic plan, approving school policies, monitoring and evaluating and overseeing the school budget.

If you would like to find out more about the role of a school governor, please address an email to 'FAO Clerk to Governors' and send it to: info@heage.derbyshire.sch.uk
